Job Description:
We are seeking an Attorney to advocate for our clients across complex litigation matters, combining sound legal judgment, strategic thinking, and strong client partnership to deliver thoughtful, effective outcomes. The ideal candidate will represent clients in state, municipal, and federal courts, manage cases through all phases of litigation and appeals, and work closely with clients, colleagues, and courts to navigate legal issues with clarity, professionalism, and care.
Responsibilities include:
Represent the enterprise and client organizations in municipal, state, and federal court, in filed documents and in person. Appear in court as necessary, make oral arguments, prepare exhibits for entry into evidence, prepare and examine witnesses, and work with the courts to comply with all necessary procedural matters. Prepare relevant filings as required.
Oversee the work of legal assistants and paralegals assisting with case management.
Handle discovery and all phases of litigation for contested cases.
Manage all assigned cases at the appellate level, including research, writing briefs, preparing and presenting oral arguments, and keeping in close contact with the client throughout the process. Appellate cases frequently involve more in-depth communication with the client organization at the highest level.
Work with opposing counsel and pro-se parties to attempt to resolve cases. Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients within the parameters of clients instructions.
Work directly with clients to determine case strategy. Advise clients concerning business transactions, claim liability, advisability of prosecuting or defending lawsuits, and clients legal rights and obligations. Respond to client questions and concerns and keep them updated on case status.
Interpret laws, rulings, regulations, and specific areas of law relating to assigned cases. May assist other attorneys in the firm on questions within area of expertise.
Analyze the probable outcomes of cases, considering prior decisions issued by the specific court and legal precedents, and advise clients accordingly.
Prepare and draft legal documents, review and update template documents associated with case management software as needed.
Confer with colleagues with specialties in appropriate areas of the law to establish and verify basis for legal proceedings.
Develop a thorough understanding of MDK culture and work to be a successful contributor and supporter of MDK s mission and values, including MDK initiatives.
Support team in meeting firm expectations and goals.
Qualifications include:
Juris Doctorate degree. Admission to the Bar in one or more states or jurisdictions as necessary for the specific role and practice area. Notary Public strongly preferred. Prior work experience as a law clerk or intern in a legal environment preferred. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail, organization and prioritization skills. Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office products. Able to travel as needed.
